June 16, 2004, PALO ALTO, CA. — Registration is now open for Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference: October 6-9, 2004 in Chicago, Illinois. This year's theme, Making History , emphasizes the importance of cooperation and collaboration with women of different generations. It also highlights the impact that women have made and will continue to make on technology. The GHC conference is presented by The Anita Borg Institute of Women in Technology and ACM.
Register by August 25th to receive the early registration rates. Special group rates for Grace Hopper Conference attendees are available at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers. To register for the conference or for more information see www.gracehopper.org .
"The GHC has a profound impact because it includes all these women in computing sciences doing interesting and exciting work and the participants come away with a sense of motivation, community and support they may have never had before in their predominantly male environments," said Dr. Telle Whitney co-founder of the event along with Dr. Anita Borg (1949-2003). "Anita and I always imagined it as a technical conference and as a celebration of the amazing work that flows from its participants, but we completely underestimated the impact that this experience had on the students, faculty and working professionals that have attended over the years."
The 2004 keynote speakers are Dr. Shirley Malcom , Head of Education and Human Resources of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Telle Whitney , President and CEO of the Anita Borg Institute of Women and Technology, and Professor Lydia Kavraki , from Rice University and the winner of the 2000 ACM Grace Hopper Award. Invited talk speakers include: Genevieve Bell from Intel, Linda Bernardi from Connecterra, Cynthia Dwork from Microsoft Research, Jessica Hodgins from CMU, Melody Moore from Georgia State, Daniela Rus from MIT, and Tandy Warnow from UT Austin.
